Click IDs Explained: GCLID, Network IDs & Custom IDs
A click ID is a unique or semi-unique identifier attached to a marketing interaction so later events can be joined back to that click.

The core idea
Ad platforms, affiliate networks and independent trackers may each use different IDs. Preserve the ones required by your conversion flow.
What matters in practice
Do not treat every URL parameter as a click ID; campaign labels and individual-click identifiers serve different purposes.
Decision rule
Map identifiers from acquisition through checkout before implementing server-side conversion reporting.
Tracking principle: Define the business outcome first, then choose the measurement method and software. A sophisticated dashboard cannot repair unclear event definitions or inconsistent campaign naming.
