Postback URLs Explained for Affiliate Marketers

A postback URL is a server-to-server endpoint used to report a conversion and associated identifiers from one system to another.

The core idea

In a typical affiliate flow, the tracker passes a click ID to the network; after conversion, the network calls the tracker’s postback URL with that ID and relevant value fields.

What matters in practice

Server-to-server delivery avoids depending entirely on a browser pixel, but the parameter mapping still has to be correct.

Decision rule

Test the postback with the network’s supported tools before spending meaningful traffic.

Tracking principle: Define the business outcome first, then choose the measurement method and software. A sophisticated dashboard cannot repair unclear event definitions or inconsistent campaign naming.
